Mortgage Broker Application

** NEW MORTGAGE LICENSE APPLICANTS **

Effective December 16, 2008, the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions (AzDFI) will not be accepting any paper license applications submitted directly to AzDFI for mortgage brokers, mortgage bankers, and commercial mortgage bankers.  AzDFI is transitioning to a new web-based mortgage licensing system called the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).   All license applications must be submitted through the NMLS. (Click “NMLS” to access the website)

Entities wishing to apply for a mortgage broker, mortgage banker, or a commercial mortgage banker license in the State of Arizona

By the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions (AzDFI)
AzDFI will officially be using the NMLS starting January 2, 2009.  You will not be able to access the Arizona jurisdiction-specific requirements until January 2, 2009, please go to paragraph heading “Existing Company Record on NMLS for more information.  For any company that is not already on the NMLS system, please go to paragraph heading New Company on NMLS” for more information.
Existing Company Record on NMLS:  If your company already has a record in the NMLS, you will not have the ability to access the Arizona jurisdiction information until January 2, 2009.  Since you are or were once licensed/registered in another state participating in NMLS, then applying for a license in Arizona merely involves logging into NMLS and filing your company's NMLS record (Form MU1) and relevant branch records (Form MU3) with Arizona through NMLS and mailing in the required jurisdiction-specific requirements to AzDFI.  One can not submit any paperwork to AzDFI until information is entered and submitted through the NMLS system and then you should mail/deliver to AzDFI any required paperwork within 5 business days of submission through the NMLS.
New Company on NMLS :  If your company does not currently have a record in the NMLS and is interested in applying for a mortgage broker, mortgage banker, or commercial mortgage banker license in Arizona, getting started is easy.  You will have access to Arizona jurisdiction specific requirements starting January 2, 2009.  You can access the NMLS system to request a user id and password at any time.  The issuing of a user id and password can take up to 72 hours.  We advise you to take advantage of a tutorial on the NMLS to become familiar with using this web-based system.  The NMLS website will walk you through all the steps here: Getting Started on NMLS
Please note that NMLS will support Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or greater and Firefox 2.0 or greater, and all browsers must be JavaScript enabled in order to use the Mortgage Licensing System. NMLS also requires a high-speed Internet connection.
For questions relating to the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System, please contact the NMLS Call Center at (240) 386-4444.
For questions relating to Arizona jurisdiction specific requirements, please call 602-255-4421 and ask for licensing, or send an email to licensing@azdfi.gov.
